Lab tests of hybrid processes, a scale up towards industrial reality, and an estimate of the environmental, economic and social benefits of the processes

A series of tests combining adsorption of effluent and additional processes, and processing tests on the solid phase issued from the adsorption, will be performed by each team. A feedback at mid-term of the laboratory tests period will be necessary to check the validity of the choice of tests, and possibly to re-focus the work.
The combined skills of all countries will lead to the choice of the most efficient processes to achieve the desired water quality, and the best solid waste valorization or inerting modes. The scaling up will be implemented at a small (bench) scale. The experimenters will study factors that change during scale-up, based on a set of critical parameters such as temperature, pressure, time of introduction of the reactants, restlessness, and the laboratory preliminary work data collection. The objectives are to maximize the value of the critical parameters and to know the impact of their variation on the performance of the small scale unit and the quality of treated effluent. These small scale sized devices, will be designed by pooling of the expertise of the project partners. The implementation will enable to model the characteristic parameters, and further to study the feasibility to a larger scale (in collaboration with the industrials). The small scaling up also enables providing an initial estimate of the environmental, economic and social benefits. These aspects will be taken over by modeling in the frame of the Life Cycle Assessment, of Life Cycle Cost, and of Life Cycle Risk Assessment. Finally, the summary of all analysis results will provide recommendations and help decision tool to industrials and decision maker.
